Fleet Map Improvements

Learn About Important Changes We Have Made to Your Fleet Map

Our cities and communities are like living beings, slowly growing and changing over time. Just like the veins and arteries that support a living creature, streets and highways are critical to the wellbeing and health of these communities and, over time, must change and evolve to meet the needs of the communities they serve.

Verizon Connect understands that, as a business, it is vital that the information we provide about roads, the locations that these roads service and the precision of the results we provide when you search for a location or address using our maps is as accurate as possible.

With that in mind, over the last few months we have rebuilt our core mapping technology to give you an even better experience. These changes will gradually roll out to our products over the following months. After this rollout, you can expect to see improvements in the accuracy of address and location searches, and greater precision in reports that use location data, among other changes.

What's changed?

  • Improved accuracy of addresses with greater precision of address locations giving you better, more actionable data for your operations
  • Better search capabilities when looking for specific stops, markers, depots or customer locations
  • Improved accuracy of stops, markers, and trip details on your reports; driving better business intelligence and superior analytics
  • Support for alphanumeric street number searches on the map

Over the next quarter (Q4 2019), this new mapping engine will make its way into all parts of Verizon Connect Fleet. Look out for additional communications in the coming months as they are rolled out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How has geocoding changed?

Improvements have been made to geocoding (searching for street addresses) and reverse geocoding (looking up the address closest to a coordinate location) operations. These include:

  • More accurate locations of street numbers within streets based on precise mapping of individual properties
  • More accurate off-street locations for individual properties which reduce the chance of points showing as the wrong street when close to a street corner
  • Improved support for non-standard street numbers or street numbers that are alphanumeric, such as "5a", "W4519" or "54-36". Support for alphanumeric street numbers will be rolled out in phases across our platform and, in the meantime, they may be displayed as a numeric version of the address or without a street number in some areas.

Q: What regions will these changes affect?

These improvements will be seen across significant portions of over 50 countries across North America, Europe, South America, APAC and more. Where high precision location data is not available, behavior will remain unchanged.

Q: Which areas of Fleet, and which other Verizon Connect products, will be affected by these changes?
